“After learning of the sentence, the husband went home, kicked his two little sons out and slit his wife’s throat,” the Algerian daily Alshuruq said.

Islamic Cleric with 97 Wives, I am not Dead

The controversial Bida-based Islamic cleric and husband of 97 wives, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Masaba, on Sunday, debunked the rumour of his death, saying, ''I am hale and hearty. The rumour of my death is not true.''

The rumour of the death of the 87-year-old record polygamist spread like fire in harmattan on Saturday, especially in the mass media, leading to phone calls and the handing down of instructions by editors to their reporters to get update on the issue.

According to the rumour mill, the cleric died at about 7.45 p.m. during an undisclosed brief illness.

Nigerian Tribune investigation revealed that no sooner than the news of the death broke that some of his teeming followers trooped out en masse to his residence with the intention of confirming the news. They were, however, taken aback when they met their leader conducting a preaching session.

An online news outfit,,had earlier confirmed the purported passing on of the cleric.

Kenyan stranded in the Saudi Arabia

Families with their kin stranded in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia say the Government should assist to bring them back.

This is even as many stakeholders at the Kenyan Coast lauded the temporary ban on the export of Kenyan workers to the kingdom.

“All I want is my wife back,” said Mwandodo Juma, whose wife, a nurse, he said was lured to Saudi Arabia in November on the promise of a career in the medical sector only to be condemned to domestic work.

A mother of a 24-year-old Kenyan woman, Rehema Juma Mwasina of Likoni, Mombasa, is also appealing for assistance to liberate her daughter from an abusive employer.

Fatuma Juma Ndurya said her daughter, who was recruited late last year for a housemaid job, complained of mistreatment. “I fully support the ban. My suggestion is that Kenyans be stopped from going to Saudi Arabia to work as maids,” she said.

A Saudi man has been beheaded on charges of sorcery and witchcraft, the state news agency SPA says.
The man, Muree bin Ali bin Issa al-Asiri, was found in possession of books and talismans, SPA said. He had also admitted adultery with two women, it said.
The execution took place in the southern Najran province, SPA reported.

Amnesty International says the country does not formally classify sorcery as a capital offence.

Kenyan Nursing Student in the US Returns Home With Team to Give Medical Service to the Poor

Grace Mbuthia
Ms Grace Mbuthia, 23, is in Kenya on a mission to provide free medical checkups to marginalised communities. She has started with a small village in the Rift Valley on the outskirts of Nakuru Town where she spent a good part of her childhood.

From a makeshift hospital at the Trinity Church in Kiamunyeki Village, the bubbly student-nurse who resides in the US is to offer her professional services for free as well as her pocket-money to buy drugs and finance surgery and specialised treatment.

She moves around with enthusiasm and unbridled energy coordinating activities at the “hospital”.

Some patients, she found out, cannot afford the prescriptions given by doctors at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital. Such people, she says, she simply gives money to buy the medicine after a brief check-up.

When the Nation visited Ms Mbuthia’s medical camp, there was a 10-year-old boy who had meningitis but whose parents could not afford to seek treatment for.

“It is very sad that these are the scenes being replicated in millions of poor households across the country. Someone definitely has to do something, and I will not sit around waiting to find out who that is. I aim to do it myself,” Ms Mbuthia said.

She has come together with four other nurses, all of them her colleagues at St Luke’s College of Nursing in Kansas, Missouri, where she studies (READ MORE: Student Nurse Gives Back to Homeland with Kenyan Mission).

With her are also several clinical officers from the provincial hospital. They have already attended to 800 people in a span of days, and more are streaming in. A tent outside the church serves as the waiting lounge.

Pesa Pata: Kenya's Next Big Innovation?

Kenyans can now access quick loans from their nearest kiosk thanks to a new product called Pesa Pata that targets the unbanked and low income earning individuals who would traditionally not qualify for bank loans.

Pesa Pata (Swahili for ‘get money’) has been unveiled by Paddy Micro Investments, a micro-finance institution founded in 2008.

Pesa Pata uses an agency model where the kiosk owner is the agent. At the kiosk the customer is given a Pesa Pata scratch card of a value between US$3 and $59. Each card has a unique number that is then loaded onto the customer’s mobile phone. The amount is then credited to the customer’s Safaricom M-Pesa mobile money account.

Joyce Wangui, a director at Paddy Micro Investments, explains that Pesa Pata seeks to bridge the gap in access to credit for low income earners who lack pay slips or any other form of collateral.

“We realised that there are times when people need instant cash and going to a bank or micro-finance institution for a loan is not an option. Other people who work in the informal sector at most times cannot even qualify for bank loans,” says Wangui.

Warioba: Ni ruksa kujadili Muungano

Detroit man gambles away $1.5 million accidentally given by ATM

(Alan Diaz/AP)
Ronald Page seemingly had it made when Bank of America unintentionally changed his account status, allowing the 55-year-old man to make unlimited ATM cash overdraft withdrawals.
But ABC News reports that Page, who in reality had only $300 in his checking account, used the accidental loophole to withdraw more than $1.5 million—losing it all on gambling.
And even worse for Page, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit says he is now facing 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges of theft of bank funds, $1,543,104 in total between December 1, 2008 and May 31, 2009.
"In this case, the bank's glitch allowed the defendant to lose a significant amount of money that was not even his in the first place," reads the U.S. Attorney's sentencing memorandum, obtained by ABC. "The fact that defendant acted on an impulse does not minimize the seriousness of his conduct and the need for a custodial sentence."

Tanzania Office Shoes and Black Footwear - literally!

If you’re after a pair of Office Shoes (or any type of Footwear for that matter!) in Arusha, Tanzania, one does not go to the a Office Shoe Shop – instead, you go to the local mechanic!

What The? I hear you say!
That’s right, the mechanic recycles old car tyres and makes them into all sorts of  Footwear, which I think is the ultimate in recycling, even more so than the shoe fence in New Zealand.
Here is a photo I took of the range of Custom Made Footwear that your local Tanzanian mechanic can produce, which occurs in a wide variety of black:

Office Shoes - Footwear Custom Made From Tyres
This is another awesome example that demonstrates that nothing is wasted in Africa – they are the ultimate recyclers.
The sole of these Office Shoes is made from the tread of the car tyre, offering the wearer excellent grip in all conditions, including when it’s raining.

Angry Teacher Rips Student’s Cheek Off

xin 010106091100656796137 Angry Teacher Rips Students Cheek Off picture

A 10 year-old 5th grader named Chao Qun Zheng went to his elementary schoolin HeNan, China.
When his teacher, Guo, found out that young Zheng had not completed his homework, she flipped out.
“She was very angry at the time,” he said. “She ripped and twisted my cheeks with both her hands and then she lifted me off the ground.”

The teacher held the boy up until one of his cheeks actually ripped off and the boy was bleeding profusely.
Without hesitation the teacher reached down and picked up Zheng’s cheek skin, put it on his face, and instructed the boy go home immediately.
When the parents saw Zheng, they immediately took him to the hospital where it took 52 stitches to have his cheek sewn back on.
Zheng’s father has reported the case to the police and is expected to press for damages.

Obama immigration shift a hit with voters

President Barack Obama's high-profile shift on immigration last week — announcing plans to grant temporary legal status to as many as 800,000 undocumented people brought to American soil as children — has the overwhelming support of likely voters in a new Bloomberg poll released Tuesday.
Sixty-four percent of them — and 66% of independents, the frequently up-for-grabs voters thought to decide elections — support the president's decision. The White House has forcefully (and rather implausibly) denied that Obama sought political gain from his announcement. But as recently as March 2011, he had said publicly that he lacked the power to halt such deportations.

God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, yet one, is clearly declared in scripture.

How can God be three, yet one? An explanation of the Trinity with marriage as a picture.

The single clearest declaration of the existence of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit - i.e, to use the traditional theological term, as a Trinity - is found in I John 5, which states, in relevant part:
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. Forthere are three who testify in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that testify on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God's testimony which he has testified concerning his Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn't believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn't have God's Son doesn't have the life... We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
I John 5:1-12, 20 & marg. (WEB)
The italicized language in the above passage directly asserts that the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit are one. Unfortunately, this language is also found only in the margin of most modern translations, attached to a notation indicating that it is not found in extant Greek texts which date earlier than the Sixteenth Century. However, even if the questioned language is treated as if it had been added by Medieval monks (a historical conclusion with which this author disagrees), the existence of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three yet one, can be demonstrated in at least three other ways.
First, even if the language italicized above is ignored, the remainder of I John 5 is of unquestioned authenticity and clearly teaches the concept of the Trinity. Only the person who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God overcomes the world, is born of God and has life. Anyone who does not believe this calls God a liar. Yet in verse 20, both God and his Son are called "him who is true" and "the true God." Furthermore, in verse 7 the Spirit is called "the truth," and in verses 8 through 10 the testimony of the Spirit, the testimony of the water and the blood by which Christ came and the testimony of God are equated.
Second, numerous other scriptures either directly teach or depend upon the concept. For instance, "the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ" is referred to in Colossians 2:2, and in I Corinthians 12:3-6, the Spirit of God and the Holy Spirit are equated, his work in our lives is identified as God's work, and is identified as the only power by which we can say "Jesus is Lord." Similarly, Jesus' own words are said to be God's words because God gives the Spirit to him without measure. John 3:34-35. It was God who anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power. Acts 10:38. Likewise, in several places Jesus promises to send his followers the Holy Spirit from the Father, to comfort, teach and empower them and to guide them into all truth. John 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:7. Indeed, all things that the Father has belong to the Son, and Jesus promised to send the Spirit to show them to his disciples. John 16:14-15. After his resurrection, the scriptures indicate that Jesus kept this promise, receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit from the Father and pouring it out on his followers who were gathered together. Acts 2:33.

Afghans Hungry for Viagra...

Afghanistan's reputation as a haven for drug smugglers is well known.

But while it is normally opium and its derivative substances that grab all the headlines, it seems that a little blue pill is now causing the authorities serious concern.

Viagra, a well-known erectile dysfunction drug, has long been in demand in the country.

Such is its popularity the CIA has in the past been known to use the medicament as an enticement for tribal leaders to pass on information about Taliban movements.

Now, however, it seems the little love philter is so prevalent it has become a major headache for the government in Kabul.

Hamas Celebrates Brotherhood Win in Egypt...

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyah congratulated Egypt on Monday after the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Mursi's campaign announced that he had won the election.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip celebrated Mursi's self-declared victory on Monday, with fireworks and parades of cars and motorcycles.
Haniyah said that he prayed for Egypt's stability and security, and he called on Egypt to rein in Israeli aggression.
He also refuted Israeli accusations that Hamas had fired rockets from Egypt's Sinai peninsula into Israel, saying that these charges allow Israel to attack Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as in the recent case of two Palestinians killed by an Israeli air raid on Beit Hanun in northern Gaza.

The letter was sent to Ali Bahkti and his pastor Mike Salazar. The envelope indicates it is from Tehran, Iran. It is apparently signed by a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Army. Mike Salazar said, ‘It`s a death threat very simply.’ Ali Bakhti added, ‘Religious decree to kill.’ Salazar said, ‘It`s something to be taken seriously.’
Ali Bakhti said he once served in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard when he was a teenager. Bakhti said, ‘Dirty bombs, convert civilian streets into a mine fields.’ He said he was even assigned a suicide mission, to blow up an Israeli disco. But, he had a dramatic change of heart and faith and converted to Christianity and moved to the U.S. He met Pastor Salazar at church and since then the two have been spreading their beliefs to church goers. The two men believe that Islam is a religion that could easily radicalize a Muslim into a terrorist.

Muslim in Tunisia said: “No to Democracy”

The sign, held by a Salafi fundamentalist in Tunisia, reads
“No to Democracy.”  Only in the Islamic world would you
find people who actually protest their own political freedom.

Blog: How I navigated Kenya using Twitter.
Nairobi, Kenya (CNN) -- Surfers beware. There is an incredibly influential and vocal group on Twitter, using a common hashtag and blazing keyboards to ensure their African country is discussed fairly and with respect online. Kenyans on Twitter, better known as #KOT, are a 21st century phenomenon born out of the social media boom and growing economy in East Africa's most populous city, Nairobi.
Why are they so vocal and what is it doing for the country at large? My mission for "Inside Africa" recently was to find out - and I did so with an experiment.

Mbunge amlipua mfanyabiashara kwa ujasusi

Mbunge wa Wawi (CUF),Hamad Rashid Mohamed
Neville Meena, Dodoma
